Dental health remains a significant challenge in Spain, with high rates of cavities and gum disease. To support preventive care, Dentaid sought a tool to help hygienists collect, monitor, and analyze patient hygiene data efficiently across two visits.
Problem
Hygienists faced several challenges when recording patient data:
Data management limitations: the tool needed to handle up to 10 patients per hygienist per session, across first and second visits.
Efficiency concerns: fast and structured data entry was required to match real-world dental hygiene workflows.
Clarity and error prevention: input fields had to be clearly grouped, with mandatory vs optional fields distinguished and session limits enforced to avoid mistakes.
Without a proper digital solution, hygienists risked slow, error-prone recording that hindered effective monitoring of patient hygiene improvement.
Approach
The project focused on workflow alignment, usability, and clarity. We collaborated closely with hygienists to map their real-world steps and ensure the tool mirrored their day-to-day practices.
Objectives included:
Align digital tool with clinical workflows to minimize friction.
Simplify data entry while maintaining accuracy.
Provide clear visual hierarchy and logical grouping of fields.
Offer meaningful monitoring tools to track patient hygiene over time.
Solution
The designed tool delivered a user-centered, efficient solution:
Workflow-aligned user flows & wireframes: grouped fields logically according to patient visit steps, reducing friction and cognitive load.
Clean, structured UI: simple forms, clear labels, error prevention, and visual hierarchy to enhance readability and reduce mistakes.
Dashboard interface: tabular view of patient data, calculated hygiene indices, sortable columns, and visual clarity for monitoring progress over time.
Interactive prototype: simulated entering data across visits and accessing the dashboard, allowing usability validation and iterative improvements.
Outcome
The tool transformed dental hygiene tracking into a fast, accurate, and intuitive process. Hygienists could now:
Record data efficiently across multiple patients and visits.
Minimize errors through clear field grouping and constraints.
Monitor patient progress over time with actionable insights from the dashboard.
This project bridged the gap between clinical workflows and digital tools, improving both hygienist productivity and patient care quality.
