Overview

Dental health in Spain faces significant challenges, such as the high prevalence of cavities and periodontal disease. Dentaid required a digital solution to streamline the collection of dental hygiene data by hygienists during patients’ first and second visits. The goal was to enable quick, efficient, and accurate data capture for up to 10 patients per session, supporting ongoing preventive efforts.

As UX/UI Designer, I designed the user flow, optimized information architecture, created wireframes, and delivered a UI solution that supports real-time data entry and subsequent analysis via a patient progress dashboard.

Define - Scope & User Needs

The project began with aligning the study’s requirements with hygienists’ workflow to define the core user needs:

  • Efficient Data Entry: Hygienists needed to record patient information swiftly across two visits.

  • Structured Workflow: Mandatory fields had to be logically grouped to reflect real-world procedural flow.

  • Study Constraints: Each hygienist could only upload data for 10 patients, per visit, emphasizing structured and clear UI flows.

UX Design – Flow & Wireframing

I translated requirements into a refined user flow and wireframes:

  • User Flow Mapping: Consolidated the study’s steps into a cohesive flow, modeling how hygienists move from one patient to the next across two visits.

  • Wireframes: Created low-fidelity screens outlining the sequential structure, grouped input fields, and logical navigation between sections—ensuring clarity and minimal friction for data entry tasks.

UI Design – Visual Interface & Dashboard

From wireframes to UI, I designed a clean, usable interface aligned with the study’s objectives:

  • Form UI: Developed a simple, accessible input interface—clear labels, field grouping, and error prevention measures.

  • Progress Dashboard: Designed a tabular interface displaying patient data with calculated hygiene progress indices. This enabled quick visual scanning and comprehension.

  • Visual Hierarchy & Readability: Used typographic contrast and spacing for legibility, prioritizing essential data while maintaining focus.

Prototype & Data Visualization

I developed a fully interactive prototype to envision workflow and analysis:

  • Interactive Prototype: Simulated key interaction sequences—entering patient data across visits and accessing the dashboard.

  • Data Visualization: The dashboard featured numerical indices and sortable columns, enabling hygienists and researchers to monitor progress and draw insights efficiently.

Outcomes & Learnings

The final solution delivered:

  • A user-friendly interface that aligned with hygienists’ real-world needs and study constraints.

  • A clear workflow that supported efficient data capture across multiple visits.

  • A visual dashboard that enabled effective monitoring of patient progress and supported decision-making post-study.

Key learning: Structuring complex workflows into simple, task-oriented interfaces and clear dashboards amplifies both usability and analytical value—especially in healthcare contexts.
